Have you been inattentive and collected some penalty points as a result of careless driving or speeding?

The law is increasingly strict in this area so penalty points can accumulate rather quickly. With the acquisition of 18 points, your driving licence ceases to be valid.

Our penalty point removal course is intended for all those who have acquired 4, but less than 17 penalty points. Participation in the course is possible on a voluntary basis without a referral, but this is available only to those drivers who have not obtained any penalty points as a result of driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or other psychoactive substances. After completing the course, 4 penalty points are removed from the driver's record. An individual may participate in the course only once over a period of three years. A certificate for having completed this accredited safe driving course is valid for three months.

WARNING! If any of the penalty points were obtained due to driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or other psychoactive substances, participation in the course is possible only with a referral from the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, a court, or an approved medical practitioner who deems it necessary after a medical examination.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, a court, or an approved medical practitioner, who deems it necessary after a medical examination, are able to refer drivers to attend the accredited penalty point removal course.

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Illegal Drugs or other Psycho-active Substances

Penalty Points and their Significance

Penalty points are points that have been issued to an individual driver who has committed a traffic violation. Each violation has a given monetary penalty and a number of penalty points. Points are automatically removed from a driver's record three years from the legal decision on the basis of which they were issued.

If a driver obtains 18 penalty points, their driving licence ceases to be valid and the penalty points obtained up to that date are removed from their record. The Traffic Violation Penalty Point Database is managed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, which also informs an individual once they have reached 8 penalty points.

New traffic legislation allows for the holder of a driving licence who has been issued 4 or more, but fewer than 17 penalty points, to participate in an accredited safe driving course. Upon completing the course, four penalty points are removed from the driver’s record. An individual is permitted to participate in this course once every three years.

The holder of a driving licence must pay for their own participation in the Penalty-Points Removal Course. The cost of the programme is 250.00 EUR.

Perusal of the Penalty Points Database

The Traffic Violation Penalty Point Database is managed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, which also informs an individual once they have reached 8 penalty points. Perusal of the database is possible by submitting an application for a Certificate of Penalty Points, which must be addressed to the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration. A reply should be received within one week.
